The defeat of the U-boat threat was a prerequisite for pushing back the Axis in Western Europe. From 1942 onward the Axis also sought to prevent the build-up of Allied supplies and equipment in the British Isles in preparation for the invasion of occupied Europe. In essence, the Battle of the Atlantic involved a tonnage war: the Allied struggle to supply Britain and the Axis attempt to stem the flow of merchant shipping that enabled Britain to keep fighting. Britain required more than a million tons of imported material per week in order to survive and fight. The Germans were joined by submarines of the Italian Regia Marina (Royal Navy) after Germany's Axis ally Italy entered the war on June 10, 1940.Īs an island country, the United Kingdom was highly dependent on imported goods. These forces were aided by ships and aircraft of the United States beginning September 13, 1941.

Convoys, coming mainly from North America and predominantly going to the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union, were protected for the most part by the British and Canadian navies and air forces. The Battle of the Atlantic pitted U-boats and other warships of the German Kriegsmarine (Navy) and aircraft of the Luftwaffe (Air Force) against the Royal Navy, Royal Canadian Navy, United States Navy, and Allied merchant shipping. The campaign peaked from mid-1940 through to the end of 1943. At its core was the Allied naval blockade of Germany, announced the day after the declaration of war, and Germany's subsequent counter-blockade. Not sure if they would differ and if the 5/8 may be a better overall option as the boys move up.The Battle of the Atlantic, the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, ran from 1939 to the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, covering a major part of the naval history of World War II. Right now on the fence.may send this back as the line is frayed and get a Wade net. Took me a few throws to figure out what was going on. Also they neglected to "crimp" the crimp near the swivel and it ended up sliding down, limiting the net from fully opening. Nothing huge but damn for 200 bones I hoped for more. The bad - The hand line had already started to fray after 2 tosses. I do like the wider mesh as it weeds out the small stuff but I cant tell small from big on my sonar and end up being wasted throws. Im still not seeing balls or schools anywhere on Leesville and I searched by arse off.so the jury is out as Im not sure I cant land the same bait with my 8 footer once they move up. Not sure if I missed or they swam out.but again same results.

I will say the net did drop through what appeared to be small scattered schools but nothing came up. I threw on the same scattered shad in 40 foot I typically do and had the same results. On my first throw I can hear and feel my shoulders popping out of socket but it spread with ease.on par or slightly better then my 8 footer.actually was really pleased with it. When stretched it baffled me how similar it felt to my 8 footer.weird but I liked it. Weights all look solid as well as stitching. Love the doubled up lead line as well as nice touches on the horn. After unpacking this net is built like a tank.

Not sure if or how that matters but alas. Upon inspection it looks like this net has been sitting a bit as the "date" printed on the bucket was from 2011. I realize neither is top shelf but my reference. First off Im currently throwing an Ahi 300 8 footer and also own a Joyfish 7 footer. Wanted to give some folks a little commentary on quality etc. Weeelll, The net arrived today just in time for a little Leesville fishing this afternoon.
